OXFORD, Miss. – Behind a pair of home runs and a complete game effort from starter Dylan DeLucia, Ole Miss picked up a game one victory over Mississippi State Thursday night at Swayze Field.
DeLucia earned his third win in as many starts, tossing nine complete with a pair of runs allowed on five hits, striking out a career-high eight. It took the righty 117 pitches to complete the affair.
Hayden Dunhurst reached in all three plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a pair of extra base hits and a walk.
The Rebels (22-15, 6-10 SEC) took advantage of an MSU (22-17, 6-10 SEC) error in the field to jump ahead 3-0 in the first. After Justin Bench and Kemp Alderman reached on a leadoff single and infield error, respectively, Kevin Graham pulled a pitch into the student section, setting off the showers and giving Ole Miss an early lead.
Mississippi State pulled a run back on a solo home run in the fifth but the Rebs got the run right back as Dunhurst hammered a big fly of his own, extending the lead to 4-1.
Kellum Clark narrowed the gap to a pair in the seventh, sending a home run over the right field fence. However, DeLucia would let the Bulldogs get no closer, retiring the final seven batters of the game to finish off the first complete game for the Rebels since Doug Nikhazy's against Mississippi State in 2021 and the second since 2015.
