Boxers Complete Four-Game Sweep Over Puget Sound - Pacific University Athletics

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com
TACOMA, Wash. – Pacific used a huge performance from Rylee Patton (Senior/Eastvale, CA) to complete the four-game sweep over Puget Sound. The Boxers edged the Loggers 4-2 in the first game of the day before shutting out their opponents 9-0 in the series finale.

Patton was excellent on both sides of the ball, earning a complete-game victory in the circle and enjoying a 4-for-8 day at the plate, mashing a home run and racking up seven RBI.

Michelle Winfield (Junior/Beaverton, OR) was the perfect table-setter for the Boxer offense, going 3-for-5 with four runs scored. Winfield scored three of Pacific's four runs in the first game of the twin bill and tallied two stolen bases on the afternoon.

Sydney Rusin (Junior/Portland, OR) was lights out in game two, throwing a six-inning shutout to earn her fourth win of the season. Rusin surrendered just five hits and fanned two batters in her masterful outing.

Game 1

The Pacific bats were extremely hot to start the contest as they opened things up with four hits in the first inning. Winfield led off the game by slapping a double down the left-field line. Samantha Petitt (Junior/Tigard, OR) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Winfield to third, and she would come around to score on a Patton single through the right side. The Boxers nearly doubled their lead but Patton was cut down at the plate following a solid throw from the Loggers' right-fielder.

Winfield would score the second run of the game as well, reaching on a walk before Petitt's groundball allowed her to touch home plate, making it a 2-0 ballgame.

The Boxers' leadoff hitter continued to make noise at the top of the order as she scored for the third time of the contest. Winfield legged out an infield hit, stole second base, and later scored on an error to make three-run advantage for Pacific at the end of five frames.

Carli Zanassi (Freshman/Bothell, WA) singled home Jordan Okumura (Freshman/Mililani, HI) to extend the lead to 4-0 in the sixth.

Patton was absolutely electric in the circle, allowing just six hits in her complete-game victory, earning her fourth win of the year. The Loggers hit a pair of solo shots the seventh, but that would be the only runs they could muster as Patton's brilliance was too much for the hosts to handle.

Game 2

Pacific continued to wreak havoc in the leadoff spot, scoring the first run of the game after leading off the game with a single up the middle.
Both teams went scoreless until the top of the fourth when Patton snuck a fly ball just inside the down the left-field foul pole, doubling the Boxers' lead. Zanassi made it a 3-0 advantage when she ripped a double down the line to score Elizabeth Young (Senior/Port Orchard, WA).

Patton smacked a single to plate two more runs in the fifth and she would later score after a Puget Sound throwing error, extending the lead to 6-0.

The Boxers were the beneficiaries of another UPS error to tack on another run and Patton concluded her unbelievable weekend with another two-RBI base hit, giving Pacific a 9-0 lead and putting the mercy rule into effect.

Rusin shut the door in the final frame and the Boxers would complete the sweep over Puget Sound.
