Nominations for the 37th annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were announced April 7 on Playbill by POTUS stars Lilli Cooper and Lea DeLaria. Watch the announcement above, and see the full list of nominees below.
Atlantic Theater Company's Kimberly Akimbo, slated to make the jump to Broadway this fall, and Ars Nova's Oratorio for Living Things lead the pack with six nominations each, including nods in the Outstanding Musical category for both. Also notable for this year's awards are the debut of an Outstanding Ensemble category, with the companies of English, Oratorio for Living Things, and Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 receiving inaugural nominations; and non-gendered performance categories.
Along with Kimberly Akimbo and Oratorio for Living Things, the Outstanding Musical category also includes Black No More and Intimate Apparel, with Coal Country, English, Letters of Suresh, On Sugarland, and Prayer for the French Republic taking the Outstanding Play nominations. Assassins, The Chinese Lady, and Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 comprise the Outstanding Revival category.
As previously announced, Deirdre O'Connell will be given a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's ceremony, and David Henry Hwang will be inducted onto the Playwrights' Sidewalk.
Produced by the Off-Broadway League and Lucille Lortel Theatre, the 37th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards will be handed out at NYU Skirball Center May 1 at 7 PM. The evening will be directed by Michael Heitzman. Tickets are available at Tickets.NYU.edu and in-person at the NYU Skirball box office.
