The Pittsburgh Maulers rounded out their roster Thursday night by selecting 10 players in the USFL’s supplemental draft.

Players with local ties selected in the 80-player supplemental portion included former Pitt safety Paris Ford of Steel Valley and former Penn State defensive end Shareef Miller.

The Maulers selected five players on defense, three on offense and two on special teams. The team’s first-round pick was Ethan Westbrooks, a defensive tackle from West Texas A&M who spent six seasons in the NFL with the Rams and Saints. The other defensive players were cornerback Keith Gipson Jr. of Mary Hardin-Baylor, outside linebacker Dale Warren of UT-Chattanooga, defensive back Malcolm Elmore of Central Methodist and defensive lineman Darrius Maragne of Kansas.

The players selected on offense were fullback Winston Dimel of Kansas State, guard/center Abdul Beecham of Kansas State and tight end Hunter Thedford of Utah. The Maulers also drafted kicker Ramiz Ahmed of Nevada and punter Max Duffy of Kentucky.

Ford, who went undrafted in 2021, was selected by the New Jersey Generals in the fourth round. He spent training camp last year with the Los Angeles Rams but did not make the roster.

Miller also was selected in the fourth round, going to the New Orleans Breakers. He was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019 and spent time in the Carolina, Arizona and Atlanta organizations.

Another player with local ties, former Gannon quarterback/wide receiver Tyler Palka, was drafted by the Houston Gamblers in the ninth round.

A few former Steelers players were taken in the draft: Tackle Jarron Jones went in the first round to the Tampa Bay Bandits, and outside linebacker Travis Feeney, a former sixth-round pick, went to Tampa Bay in the eighth round.

Drafted players will report to training camp March 22 in Birmingham, Ala., where the league’s entire season will be contested. Each of the USFL’s eight teams will have 45 players — 38 on the active roster and seven on the practice squad.

The USFL season kicks off April 16.
