The Broncos have completed the first interview of their head coaching search.
General Manager George Paton and Denver's search committee met with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn on Thursday for the team's open head-coaching position.
Glenn, who has eight years of NFL coaching experience, finished his first year as a defensive coordinator in 2021 after five years as the Saints' defensive backs coach.
Despite missing several of their best players for much of the season, the Glenn-led Lions defense allowed nearly five fewer points per game in 2021 than they did in 2020.
"I think if you've spent any time around him, he strikes you as head coach material," the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett told DenverBroncos.com. "I realize that coming from the Lions and a three-win team this year, it's probably a tough sell, but when you look at the leadership qualities, the people that he's learned under — Bill Parcells, Sean Payton, some of those guys — I don't think there's any doubt he'll be a head coach in the NFL eventually. I can tell you that all the Lions players up here speak highly of him as a motivator, a teacher, a person. I just think in today's NFL, that goes a long way."
During his time in New Orleans, Glenn helped guide a secondary that was among the league's best and included Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore. Glenn also worked with a trio of Pro Bowlers as an assistant secondary coach in Cleveland.
A former first-round pick and a three-time Pro Bowler as an NFL player, Glenn spent a pair of seasons after his career in the Jets' front office before transitioning to the coaching ranks.
The Broncos will reportedly interview 10 candidates for the head coaching position.
