Oklahoma opens the season Feb. 18-20 at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown, where it will face Auburn, Arizona and Michigan at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The Sooners return to the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston, and will play LSU, UCLA and Tennessee. OU won two of three games at the 2020 Shriners College Classic.
Oklahoma plays its home opener on Feb. 22 against Wichita State. Beginning with that midweek contest, OU will play 21 of its next 25 games (through April 5) at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Ten of Oklahoma's 23 opponents participated in the NCAA postseason last year, three reached the College World Series (Arizona, Tennessee and Texas) and three others advanced to Super Regionals (Dallas Baptist, LSU and Texas Tech). OU will play a total of 21 games against opponents that reached the NCAA postseason last year (four of those games will be played at home). The schedule also includes 23 games against 10 opponents that ended the 2021 season ranked in the top 50 of the RPI.
"We believe that we have put together a very exciting schedule for this season," Johnson said. "Our club will be challenged early on, at Globe Life Field and in the Shriners Classic, and the Big 12 will be one of the top leagues in the country again. We'll play a bunch of home games this season, but especially early in the year giving our fans a lot of opportunities to watch this team compete. We think they will enjoy watching our players compete, and we're excited to see where this season goes."
Oklahoma's non-conference home game against Oklahoma State at ONEOK Field will be the third straight season the Sooners will play a Bedlam home game in Tulsa (not counting the COVID-shortened 2020 season) and the 14th meeting between OU and OSU at the downtown ballpark since 2010.
"We know how much the Bedlam series means to baseball fans across the state, and we're excited to play in front of the great fans in Tulsa again this season," Johnson said. "The Drillers are always first-class hosts, and we look forward to playing at ONEOK Field again this spring."
The Sooners play early non-conference weekend series against Northwestern State (Feb. 25-27), UTSA (March 11-13) and New Orleans (March 18-20), and welcome Pacific and Lamar to Norman for a three-game set April 14-16.
OU will also host Wichita State (Feb. 22 and April 19), Dallas Baptist (March 8), Air Force (March 15-16) and Oral Roberts (April 5) in midweek contests. The Sooners will play midweek road contests at Wichita State (March 22), Oral Roberts (April 26), DBU (May 3), and will play a non-conference game against Texas Tech in Amarillo again this year (April 12).
The Big 12 Conference schedule runs 24 games over eight weekend series. The Sooners will play home series at L. Dale Mitchell Park against Baylor, Texas, Kansas State and West Virginia. OU's road series will be against Oklahoma State, Kansas, TCU and Texas Tech.
Oklahoma opens Big 12 play with consecutive home series against Baylor (March 25-27) and Texas (April 1-3). The Bedlam conference series will take place April 8-10 in Stillwater.
The Sooners will face Kansas on the road April 22-24, before returning home for a set against Kansas State at Mitchell Park April 29-May 1. OU will then travel to Fort Worth to take on TCU May 6-8, host West Virginia May 13-15 in Norman, and close out the regular season May 19-21 against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
The 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 25-29 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
