BOX SCORE
MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Down 2-1 to Murray State Saturday, the Morehead State volleyball program again used a stingy defense to hold back the Racers and allow the offense to shine as well as the Eagles defeated the Racers 3-2 at Johnson Arena.Murray grabbed the first set 25-21 before the home team rebounded to win set two 25-18. The Racers edged ahead with a 25-22 set-three win, but Morehead State held the Racers to a .000 hitting percentage (13 kills, 13 errors) in the final two sets to win 25-14 and 15-6.
Morehead State improved to 6-9 overall and evened its OVC mark at 2-2.
It was the net defense that shined again. Just like Friday night with 14 team blocks, the Eagles turned back 13 today. Freshman Irene Wogenstahl, who set a career-high with six blocks in Friday's win, added one more today for a career-best seven. She also added eight kills with just one error.
Freshman Maycie Welborn also broke out with the defense, rejecting a career-high six. Grad student Olivia Lohmeier, typically leading the team in kills (which she did as well), also notched a season-high six blocks.
Lohmeier led the team with 19 kills and added nine digs for a near-miss double-double. Sophomore Abby Hulsman had her 11th double-digit kill match with 14. The Eagles also hit .241 and landed seven aces.
Junior libero Allison Whitten was again all over the back row with a team-high 18 digs after getting a career-best 40 on Friday. Olivia Montelisciani and Andrea Grimes added 12 scoops apiece.
Morehead State now heads on the road for solo OVC match at Tennessee tech Wednesday night.
