Lynnae Burns has served public education for almost three decades
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Lynnae Burns, a La Crosse art teacher whose nomination for a state award lauded her as “a beloved teacher and trusted colleague,” received the 2021 Middle-Level Art Educator Award from the Wisconsin Art Education Association.
Burns, who teaches art at Lincoln/SOTA II/Coulee Montessori, plans to retire this year after nearly three decades of serving in public education.
One of the letters nominating Burns for the award said, “Lynnae is a nurturing and inspiring teacher. She has taught many ages and at many schools and her legacy remains her innovative lessons coupled with a deep compassion and interest in her students. Lynnae’s masterful and attentive teaching leads her students to produce work that is authentically their own, with imagery pulled from their dreams, memories, and collective cultural experiences.
“She is a beloved teacher, trusted colleague, and is recognized as a pillar of our La Crosse Fine Arts department. She is beyond deserving of this honorable recognition,” the letter said.
