After opening the season with consecutive close victories, the O’s continued their surprisingly hot start in runaway fashion, completing a season-opening three-game sweep of the Red Sox with an 11-3 Easter Sunday rout at Fenway Park.
Springing to an early double-digit lead, the Orioles touched up Garrett Richards and Josh Taylor for seven runs in the third inning, easily Baltimore’s biggest frame of the young season. Austin Hays, Trey Mancini and Ryan Mountcastle each registered a run-scoring hit in the inning, though Hays left with an injury before it ended. Cedric Mullins’ five-hit day and Maikel Franco’s two-run double added to the club’s 17-hit attack.
All told, four O’s enjoyed a multihit game in support of rookie left-hander Bruce Zimmermann, who logged six solid innings en route to his first Major League victory.
