Sikh soldier uses turban to stop bleeding of colleague - Times of India

RAIPUR: A Sikh CoBRA commando took off his turban to stop the bleeding of a fellow soldier in the middle of the fierce encounter in Bijapur’s Tekulguda village on Saturday. Then, they went back into battle.
TOI spoke to the commando, constable Balraj Singh, now being treated in a Raipur hospital. “We were firing back at the Maoists when they attacked us with UBGLs (under-barrel grenade launchers). Sub-inspector Abhishek Pande was severely wounded. He was right beside me and I could see blood gushing out of his leg. I realised that he would die if the bleeding doesn’t stop. I looked for firstaid kits, but they were all exhausted since so many of us were wounded,” he said.
“Seeing no way out, I unwrapped my turban, tore it into strips and tied it around the leg of my colleague. The bleeding stopped and Pande went back to firing,” Singh added. Minutes later, Balraj says, he decided to break the ambush and charged at one of the Maoist firing positions, shooting on the run. “It was then I was shot in the abdomen,” he said. Special DGP Rajinder Kumar Vij took to Twitter to salute the Sikh Jawan.
