nnnindonesia.blogspot.com
DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team posted a 4-3 win over Eastern Michigan at DeKalb High School on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies (13-12, 5-5) opened up a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. The Huskies' No. 2 and No. 3 teams won by identical 6-2 scores, with the No. 3 team of Iullia Dmitrieva and Diana Lukyanova clinching the win.

"The girls played so well today," NIU head coach Eric Burns said. "It was a great effort by everyone. Doubles really set the tone and that's an area we've been working on, but we were on target today. Lara [Slisko] and Fern [Naves] had a great win in doubles against one of the better teams in the league and that really gave us some confidence to close out the doubles point."

Maria Potsi set the tone for NIU in singles play with an efficient 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory at No. 1 singles. Anastasia Rakita also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, while Fernanda Naves' first conference win of the season clinched the match for the Huskies. Naves earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Julia Piatek at No. 5 singles.

"In singles, Maria was so good at No. 1 and Fern did a really great job to close out a tough match to clinch the win," Burns said. "We are really proud of this win. Eastern was coming off a great effort at Ball State so this was a good win for us. Hopefully we can carry this momentum through next week."

NIU returns to the court Friday, April 23 when the Huskies open a three-match road swing at Bowling Green. The match will begin at 12 p.m. CT.
