The MCL Complete Project: Nationwide Data Collection - MedPage Today

At December's American Society of Hematology virtual annual meeting, researchers presented an initiative which aims to match population-based data from the Swedish lymphoma register with patient records, data from first-line treatments, histopathology, and co-morbidity data to form a complete database on mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) in Sweden. Overall survival and progression-free survival data with first-line treatment and successive lines of therapy on patients with MCL were presented.

In this video courtesy of VJHemOnc, lead author Mats Jerkeman, MD, PhD, of Lund University Cancer Center in Sweden, discusses the project.

Following is a transcript of his remarks:

We have, in Sweden, something that is called the Swedish Lymphoma Register, which includes all patients with lymphoma nationwide. So, this register was started in 2000, and so there's quite a lot of patients now included. So it's one of the few truly population-based lymphoma registers worldwide, together with the Danish Infomar register.

And in this project, we have collected data from the lymphoma register, but also added more data by also reviewing patient records. So we have been able to include data on all lines of treatment in this database. And also comorbidity data, data on histopathology, so [we] added data to the lymphoma register.

And in this presentation we show some initial data. We were able to present not only overall survival data, but also data on progression-free survival for first-line treatment, but also some data on later lines of treatment. And the plan is also to eventually link these data to other databases. So, this is why we call it MCL Complete. So the eventual goal is to have a complete database on everything about mantle cell lymphoma patients in Sweden.
