There are a handful of important injury situations this week that will most definitely have an impact on fantasy football, so let’s get right down to brass tacks. Here’s what you need to know. This time I’ve put the relevant information under each position group here. As always, be sure to check the news Sunday morning before making your final lineup decisions. Good luck!
Quarterbacks
Doubtful: Daniel Jones (hamstring)
Questionable: Nick Foles (hip), Cam Newton (abdomen), Matthew Stafford (right thumb), Tua Tagovailoa (left thumb), Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury, knee)
Daniel Jones is hurt, but you weren’t honestly going to start him anyway, were you? Newton is expected to play, as is Matthew Stafford. The Lions quarterback has been dealing with an injured thumb on his throwing hand for a couple weeks now. Between that and the absence of Kenny Golladay, it might be best to avoid Stafford this week.
As of Saturday, the Dolphins were expected to have Tua Tagovailoa active for Sunday’s game. However, they haven’t made a decision whether he’ll start or Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the call. Fitz has more scoring potential in fantasy.
Running backs
Out: Marquez Callaway (knee), Cullen Gillaspia (back), Josh Jacobs (ankle), Alexander Mattison (illness), Ty Montgomery (hamstring), C.J. Prosise (illness)
Doubtful: Salvon Ahmed (shoulder), Travis Homer (wrist, knee), D’Andre Swift (illness), DeAndre Washington (hamstring)
Questionable: Kalen Ballage (ankle), Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness), Tyler Ervin (ribs), Todd Gurley (knee), Carlos Hyde (toe), Jakob Johnson (knee), Phillip Lindsay (knee), J.J. Taylor (quadricep)
That’s going to hurt a lot of lineups to have Josh Jacobs out this week, especially with a game against the Jets. Devontae Booker will lead the running backs for Las Vegas. He has some usefulness in fantasy given the matchup. The Dolphins activated Myles Gaskin on Saturday, so he’ll have a golden opportunity to lead the backfield with Ahmed, Breida, and Washington out.
If Gurley can’t play, the Falcons will likely use some committee of Ito Smith and Brian Hill, neither of whom have much fantasy value against the Saints. D’Andre Swift was downgrade to doubtful on Saturday afternoon, so Adrian Peterson will lead the Lions ground game this week.
Wide receivers
Out: Kenny Golladay (hip), Khadarel Hodge (hamstring), Taywan Taylor (neck)
Questionable: Chris Conley (hip), Deonte Harris (neck), Jerry Jeudy (ankle), Julio Jones (hamstring), Darnell Mooney (knee), Malcolm Perry (chest), Joe Reed (ribs), Allen Robinson (knee), Matt Slater (knee), Mike Thomas (hamstring), Terry McLaurin (ankle)
Julio Jones is expected to play, and the Falcons will certainly need him. He’s just too good not to have in your fantasy lineup, even in a tough game like this one. Allen Robinson left practice after hurting his knee on Friday. Supposedly was just a precautionary measure, and he’ll be worth having in your lineup this week.
Tight ends
Out: Ben Ellefson (knee), Irv Smith (back), Jonnu Smith (knee)
Questionable: Ryan Izzo (hamstring, hand), Noah Togiai (knee)
Kickers
Questionable: Nick Folk (back)
