A COMPANY in Birchwood Park has confirmed the death of an employee due to coronavirus.
Electricity North West announced the sad news today, Tuesday, and said it will be supporting its teams during the difficult time.
An employee recently claimed the company was still reluctant to allow people to work from home, despite a number of positive coronavirus case at the Birchwood site.
In a statement, the company's customer director, Steph Trubshaw, said some of its vital, key worker roles can only be performed on-site, but all coronavirus guidance was being followed correctly.
The statement reads: "As key workers we provide electricity to homes, businesses and hospitals to keep the region running.
"During March, we made our offices Covid secure and enabled 50 per cent of our workforce to work from home.
"Some vital roles, such as in our contact centre, can only be performed in the office due to the need to access key systems.
"Throughout the pandemic we have worked with Trade Union safety representatives, keeping colleagues up to date with regular communications and ensuring that we are following all current Government guidance.
"Like the UK, and the north of England in particular, we have seen an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the past two weeks.
"Tragically, we have also been informed of the death of one of our colleagues, and our thoughts are with their family and friends.
"We will continue talking closely with our teams to support them at this difficult time."
