2020 Census count 99.8 percent complete - Newnan Times-Herald

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com

As of Friday, 99.8 percent of households have been accounted for so far in the 2020 Census, through either self-response or nonresponse follow-up.

Final numbers show that in 2010, a little over 99.6 percent of households were counted this way, according to a release from www.2020census.gov .

“This is a tremendous accomplishment, and the women and men of the U.S. Census Bureau, including their thousands of temporary workers in every community across the country, should be tremendously proud,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “We are committed to a complete and accurate count of every community across this nation.”

Enumeration in 38 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are nearly complete, with their total response rates at or above 99.9 percent. Five additional states are at 99.8 percent complete. Only one state remains below 99 percent complete.

As of Friday, Georgia was at 99.5 percent for its total response rate, with a self-response rate of 62.6 percent. Coweta’s self-response rate was 72.1 percent, which is higher than the national self-response rate of 66.8 percent.

“We thank our nearly 400,000 national and community partners, all working as trusted voices to encourage people to respond, either with their neighborhood census taker, online, over the phone or on paper,” said Census Bureau Director Steven Dillingham. “Please join us in urging every household to respond when a census taker visits or to respond online at www.2020Census.gov , by phone at 844-330-2020, or by mail.”

The census provides data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers and others use to provide daily services, products and support for the community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads and other resources based on census data, according to 2020census.gov .

The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.

Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution mandates that the country conduct a count of its population once every 10 years. The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the country has counted its population since 1790, according to 2020census.gov .

The goal of the census is to count every person living in the United States and its five territories, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
