The chances of a Big 12 team making it to the College Football Playoff have taken a big hit.
No. 3 Oklahoma relinquished a 21-point lead and fell to Kansas State 38-35 on Saturday in Norman. Kansas State scored 24 unanswered points to end the game.
It was a monumental upset for a Sooners team that has won the Big 12 Championship each of the last three seasons. Many had the Sooners reigning the Big 12 again after they reloaded with five-star recruit quarterback Spencer Rattler.
In his Big 12 debut, he threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns, but also had three interceptions.
From Rattler to head coach Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma drew plenty of criticism after its upset loss. Here is some of the national reaction to the Sooners' loss to Kansas State.
Wow! Complete meltdown in Norman as #3 Oklahoma blows a 35-14 lead to lose to Kansas State 38-35!
College football is back!

This is Oklahoma's 6th loss as a 20-point favorite since the start of the 2009 season. No other team has lost more than three in that span.

Wow. Kansas State upsets Oklahoma. Does this mean Arkansas State has clinched Big 12 title?

Couple notes from Oklahoma's meltdown loss to K-State (playing catch-up thanks to a drive to College Station):
— Chuck Carlton (@ChuckCarltonDMN) September 26, 2020
1. OU had won 53 straight games when leading after three quarters.
2. First time Sooners have dropped back-to-back games to same opponent since Baylor in 2013 and '14.

Death. Taxes. And Oklahoma losing as 28-point *favorites*.

If Kansas State pulls this off again, can we all agree that Oklahoma doesn’t get to make the playoff this year? Please?

Sooners fans, do you want to talk about it?

Wow. K-State will upset Oklahoma. It’s already been a good day for Ohio State’s (and everyone else’s) College Football Playoff chances.

Lincoln Riley is now 0-2 all time against Kansas State’s Chris Klieman.
One of these days Oklahoma will be able to hang with a national championship winner. pic.twitter.com/yg6wYebLbB

Losing a winnable game to a far less talented team only further cements Spencer Rattler as a true Oklahoma QB.

69% of the money at William Hill sportsbooks had Oklahoma covering a 28-point spread against Kansas State today. Sooners lose outright, 38-35.

Heckuva road win by #KState and Chris Klieman who won four FCS titles at NorthDakotaState, and has now beaten OU and Lincoln Riley twice in two tries. Tremendous coach the Wildcats have there. https://t.co/cvRR8WEOvZ

Oklahoma has opted-out of the College Football Playoff

WOW. K-State does it.
This probably isn't great new for Texas in terms of strength of schedule. But..... woah. The Big 12 is chaos.

Memphis > Arkansas State > Kansas State > Oklahoma.
Big transitive property Saturday for Memphis football.
— Mark Giannotto (@mgiannotto) September 26, 2020
That was a COLOSSAL meltdown. KState just trucked the Sooners in 2nd half..... In every sense of the word TRUCKED. And really, how can OU compete with a team that lost to Arkansas St.
— Corby Davidson (@corbydavidson) September 26, 2020
Is it too late to ask Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray or Jalen Hurts to come back to OU? (Asking for a friend who has been annoyingly in on whoever Lincoln Riley plays at QB).

Big 12 football champion Arkansas State

Oh my. Oklahoma is in full-on meltdown mode. K-State blocked pint gives them short field to possibly tie the game.

Yet another shocking defensive collapse for the Lincoln Riley regime. Or should I say predictable collapse.
