May 17, 2006: Giants complete overwhelming 3-game sweep of Astros - San Francisco Chronicle

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com

Mediocre teams can enjoy an excellent series now and then. The 2006 Giants finished 76-85, but they put together one of the franchise’s most overpowering performances in a three-game series at Houston that ended May 17, 2006.

San Francisco won 10-1 that night as Ray Durham had three hits and four RBIs, and Mark Sweeney and Pedro Feliz each drove in three runs. The Giants swept the series, outscoring the Astros 34-5. Feliz homered in each of the three games and had 10 RBIs in the series.

Minute Maid Park is known to favor hitters, but Feliz downplayed the ballpark’s effect on the Giants’ offense.

“I don’t see anybody hitting 100 home runs here or have a .500 average,” he said. “Sometimes the ball goes out here and not someplace else, but that’s not going to make a difference. You still have to hit the ball hard.”

The Giants hit it hard often enough to become the first San Francisco team since 2002 to score double-digit runs in three consecutive games, and the first since 1962 to do it three times in one series.
