LAKKI MARWAT: The traders blocked the busy Bannu-DI Khan Road in Naurang city here on Sunday to protest torture of their colleague by a security guard of an administration officer.
On Sunday, a policeman accompanying additional assistant commissioner Aminullah Khan during the latter’s visit to different bazaars to check implementation of lockdown reportedly beat up a cloth merchant who had opened his outlet despite restrictions. The traders also got engaged in an argument with the cop. The trader reportedly got fainted after being tortured and was shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital.
The traders having been infuriated by the incident came onto the road and held a protest demonstration.
Qaumi Watan Party district chief Amirzada Khan, PPP leader Sahibzada Amanullh Khan and other political activists also accompanied them.
All federations union, Naurang chapter, president Haji Azeem Khan and other speakers condemned the incident and said the lockdown-hit traders were being subjected to torture by the administration officials.
They maintained that such incidents were common in Naurang city, saying that lockdown and heavy fines had destroyed their businesses.
The protesters alleged that cloth merchants and traders affiliated with other small professions were not allowed to open their outlets. They said weekly fairs were being held despite restrictions.
Additional deputy commissioner Noorul Amin along with police officials reached the spot and convinced the protesters to reopen the road after holding successful talks with them.
SHOT DEAD: A man was killed and another sustained injures in separate firing incidents in Tajori town on Sunday.
Police said assailants attacked a man and his father going on a motorcycle in Mastikhel locality, killing one of them on the spot. The victim was named Himatdar, while his father, Gulab Khan, escaped. The firing incident occurred over a minor dispute.
Gulab Khan got registered FIR against Irfan, Wajahatullah, Younas, Sherin, Hidayatullah, Hashim Khan and Sajid.
Separately, a man was wounded in a firing incident in Kotka Mir Qalam locality. Injured Dil Ayaz told police that his neighbours opened fire on him over a property dispute.
He nominated Muzaffar, Zarmanullah and Inayatullah for the offence. Police arrested two of them, Muzaffar and Zarmanullah, after registration of the case.
