- Anonymous British woman joked that she had 'slept around' as a teenager
- In response her colleague asked, 'You weren't the town bike, were you?'
- The poster was offended because she argued it was a 'sexist' term to use
- However others said she was in the wrong for bringing up the topic
A woman was offended to be called the 'village bicycle' after she jokingly told a colleague she had slept around as a teenager.
The anonymous Mumsnet user, believed to be from the UK, explained she took issue with the 'sexist' term, saying if she had been a man she would have been described as a 'player' instead.
Fellow users were divided over whether it was sexist to say, with some arguing it was a legitimate response to an inappropriate work conversation.

An anonymous British woman claimed her colleague asked if she was the 'town bike', when she joked that 's******g about' had made her leave the town she grew up in
However others argued the poster was free to sleep with anyone she liked and should not be made to feel judged for her actions.
One person wrote: 'I'm not really sure what she was meant to say, but I think it's pretty unfair to portray her as the villain of the peace. You made an inappropriate comment. She made one back.
'As you say, there is a double standard here. How comfortable would you be for a male colleague to say that to you? I wouldn't want to hear it from any colleague to be perfectly honest.'
Another added: 'Oh that's a very weird topic of conversation to joke about with a colleague... I'm honestly mystified to why on earth you ventured down that road in the first place! People don't know how to react to bizarre remarks like that, why on earth are you twisting this and making out that your colleague is the bad guy here?'
A flood of comments blasted the woman as they argued it's inappropriate to discuss sex at work and that her colleague had been put in an awkward situation
But others said the colleague shouldn't have made a judgmental comment, arguing women can sleep with whoever they please.
'S******g about: fine, it's about choice. Town bike: Judgmental - you were 100 per cent right to call her/him out. I was recently talking with couple friends about drug use in my twenties, next time we saw them my "friend" referenced me being an ex junkie! People show their prejudices quite quickly,' wrote one.
Another posted: 'I had sex with loads of people when younger. I am not ashamed of it and don't feel I should be. I probably wouldn't share that information with colleagues but I totally agree that it is horrible to be called 'the town bike' and I would be insulted by this too.
'She was rude and sexist to say this. Maybe you were using men for your needs as much as they were using you and this implies it was one sided.'
Another added: 'Myself? I wouldn't talk or joke about my sex life (past or present) to colleagues. It's unprofessional and can only lead to negative outcomes. Otherwise I agree fervently that cultural double standards is intact and appalling.'
Others blasted the colleague, saying she would've responded differently if she had been talking to a man
