Portview handover £42k for hospice in fitting tribute to colleague - Premier Construction Magazine

Employees of leading fit-out specialist, Portview, have raised thousands of pounds for Northern Ireland Hospice in memory of a beloved friend and colleague.

In as little as six weeks, over £42,000 was raised from ticket sales for Portview’s annual charity draw, which was held in tribute to Shauna Smyth (37), who passed away in September 2019 after a short battle with cancer.

Former two-weight world champion boxer and NI Hospice Ambassador, Carl Frampton MBE, joined Portview for the official charity handover on 9th March.

Speaking at the handover, Contracts Director of Portview, Sean McEvoy said:

“Shauna was a much-loved member of Portview and we feel her absence every day. We are a closely-knit team, so to lose a friend and colleague so young and suddenly has been very hard on us all.

“Shauna was fiercely passionate about giving back to the local community and helping others. As the Head of our Charity Committee, her enthusiasm to make a positive difference to people’s lives was infectious. It made us appreciate the small things – and encouraged us to spare our time, money and thoughts for people and causes less fortunate than us.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to honour Shauna’s memory than to hold a fundraiser in support of Northern Ireland Hospice – an amazing charity that showed incredible care and kindness to Shauna in her final days.”

Portview’s charity draw featured a number of luxury prize items donated by Portview’s clients and supply chain, including Arsenal FC WM hospitality tickets, a designer handbag and Cheltenham Racecourse tickets. The amount raised was then generously matched by the board of directors to bring the fundraising total to £42,000 – the highest amount ever raised by a single event in the company’s history.

“We are blown away by everyone’s generosity. I would like to thank all our clients and suppliers who donated prizes, to everyone who bought tickets, and most of all, to my team who helped to make this happen through such a difficult time. I know that Shauna would be so proud.”

Jonathan Lamberton, Corporate Fundraising Executive, NI Hospice added:

“I want to extend a huge thank you to the team at Portview for their generosity toward Northern Ireland Hospice.  The outstanding donation will help us continue to provide specialist palliative care and support to people across Northern Ireland living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.”
