A police officer is on trial at the Auckland District Court, accused of sexually assaulting a fellow officer (file photo).

A policewoman who allegedly woke to being sexually assaulted by a fellow cop has been accused of flirting and lying about her evidence.

The policeman, who cannot be named, is charged with sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault following an incident on the night of February 4 and early hours of February 5 at a Kerikeri motel.

The officers, along with a group of colleagues, were in Northland for Waitangi Day commemorations.

Paul Borich QC is acting on behalf of the accused, who denies the charges, saying it was a "pre-arranged hook up".

The Crown's case is the officer crept into the alleged victim's motel room and "helped himself" to her, despite her earlier refusing his advances after a group of officers had been drinking and socialising.

The accused denies the charges, claiming the incident was consensual and a "pre-arranged hook-up".

Crown prosecutor Fiona Culliney says the policeman "helped himself" to his colleague.

Crown prosecutor Fiona Culliney says the policeman "helped himself" to his colleague.

On Monday in the Auckland District Court, the defendant's lawyer Paul Borich QC cross-examined the alleged victim, accusing her of lying to police and in her evidence to the court.

"You've tried to sanitise what happened between the two of you that night," he said.

The alleged victim said she did not flirt with the defendant and the "pushing and shoving" shown on the CCTV footage was just "banter".

"I have been honest from the start," she said.

"There was no sexual intention or flirting whatsoever."

Borich said the alleged victim had failed to talk about the "pushing and shoving" because the CCTV "catches" her out.

"I'm extremely thankful there was CCTV," she replied.

"HE WAS CREEPING"

Last week, the complainant told the court she went to bed shortly after 2am on February 5.

At 2.34am, CCTV shown to the court showed the defendant "creeping" across the courtyard and trying the ranch slider door before opening it and sliding it closed behind him.

"He was creeping and it's f...ing disgusting," the woman said.

She became visibly upset as she watched the video.

"The first thing I knew was when I woke up to pain, I was extremely sore and uncomfortable and I was being forced and I was being told to be quiet by [the defendant].

"I woke up to him f...ing me," she told the court.

The trial before Judge Evangelos Thomas and a jury continues.
