Community members, colleagues and friends came out Tuesday evening to walk a mile in honor of fallen firefighter Jerome Guise.
Guise was killed Monday morning when the roof over a porch in a burning house collapsed on him while he was trying to control the flames. Cumberland County Coroner Charley Hall announced Tuesday that Guise, 34, died as a result of asphyxiation, smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
One of the residents in the home, Jessica Diehl, 36, also died in the fire while trying to escape, Hall said. She died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns. Diehl’s husband suffered burns in the fire and is being treated at the Lehigh Valley Burn Center. His condition has not been provided by officials.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
