Representative Anthony Brindisi says he's been advised to self-quarantine because he recently met with another congressman who now has been diagnosed with coronavirus.
Brindisi said he received a call from the attending physician of Congress Wednesday night that Ben McAdams, a representative from Utah, had tested positive for COVID-19.
Brindisi said he was with McAdams last Friday. His colleague was tested after he began experiencing some mild symptoms the following day.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Thursday, Brindisi said doctors advised him to self-quarantine as a precaution.
The congressman said he's not experiencing any symptoms. He plans to self-quarantine through March 27.
Brindisi said he's trying to maintain a safe distance between himself and family members. He said "we're doing what we can to be safe."
Brindisi said his young son and daughter seem to understand what's going on based on what they've been told by their parents. He said "the kids are less worried than we are."
