BMKG telah mengeluarkan peringatan dini, mengenai kondisi cuaca di selayar. Menurut Kepala Bidang Informasi Meteorologi Maritim, Eko Prasetyo, kondisi cuaca saat tenggelamnya Kapal Feri Lestari Maju, di Selayar, sempat terjadi hujan dan angin sehingga menyebabkan tingginya gelombang laut.
