Tarleton track and field announces complete 2023 schedule - Tarleton State University Athletics

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton track and field released its 2022-23 indoor and outdoor schedule on Wednesday afternoon.

The Texans look to build off an impressive season in 2022 that saw 33 student-athletes earn All-WAC first or second team honors combined in the indoor and outdoor seasons in their second season at the Division 1 level.

Tarleton will compete in four regular season meets in the indoor slate and eight regular season meets in the outdoor portion, with both seasons being capped by the WAC Championships.

"We're really excited to get this season going," said head coach Clay Holland. "We have a lot of new faces to combine with a big group of returners that had a tremendous season last year for us."

The indoor season kicks off with a trip to Pittsburg, Kansas, for the Crimson and Gold Classic on Dec. 9-10.

"In December we are going to Pittsburg State for an early bird meet where we will take a skeleton crew of 20-40 student-athletes," said Holland. "That meet will be before Christmas break and when we come back from break we will truly begin our indoor season."

The Texans will then compete in three consecutive meets at Texas Tech to kick off the 2023 calendar year. The Corky Classic on Jan. 13-14, the Texas Tech Open and Multis on Jan. 26-28 and the Jarvis Scott Open on Feb. 10-11 will all take place at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.

"We're going to Texas Tech three times in the indoor season," said Holland. "The main reason for that is there are only three indoor facilities in the state of Texas. We are going to see some of the best competition in the nation week in and week out in Lubbock as well. They have one of the best facilities in the nation and we get to go there and compete at a high level."

The Texans will then have a week to prepare for the WAC Indoor Championships as they are set to take place at 'The Podium' in Spokane, Washington, on Feb. 24-25.

Looking to the outdoor slate, seven of Tarleton's eight regular season meets will take place in Texas, with most being regional.

"We have a lot of local meets within two hours from Stephenville," said Holland. "We can take some larger travel squads to these meets due to the proximity."

The season kicks off in Arlington on March 10 for the UTA Invite at Maverick Stadium. The following weekend the Texans travel to a place all too familiar, Abilene, for the Wes Kittley Invitational at Elmer Gray Stadium on Mar. 17-18. The next weekend sees Tarleton head to Waco for the Clyde Hart Classic hosted by Baylor on Mar. 25-26.

The Texas Relays, one of the largest track and field meets in the country, will be Tarleton's fourth meet to compete in on March 30-31. The back half of the schedule sees the Texans trek to Denton for the North Texas Classic on April 8, Nacogdoches for the Karl Kight Invitational and Multi on April 14-15, the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on April 22 and the conclusion of the regular season is on April 28-29 at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout hosted by Texas Tech in Lubbock.

"Something that is new for our program is that we will travel to Alabama for the Crimson Tide Invitational," said Holland. "We will get to see some new competition and see how we fare out east."

The Texans will make a return trip to Nacogdoches as Stephen F. Austin will host the WAC Outdoor Championships at Homer Bryce Stadium on May 11-13.

"We have eight outdoor meets before the conference championships so we should be ready and we should know what we bring to the table before that gets here," said Holland.
