DALY CITY, CA — A Peninsula official alleges she was assaulted earlier this week by a City Council colleague.
Juslyn Manolo accused fellow Daly City councilmember Pamela DiGiovanni on Monday before City Council meeting later in the day in which she made the explosive allegations public.
Manolo alleges DiGiovanni slammed a door on her back as she was leaving a room, NBC Bay Area reports. Photos show a large bruise on her upper back.
“I am distraught because councilmember assaulted me in City Hall,” Manolo said during Monday night’s meeting.
Manolo requested that several agenda items be continued because she was “still very much traumatized by the incident.”
Manolo has filed a police report in connection with the incident, the television station reports.
DiGiovanni said she is “vehemently denying the allegations” that she said were “politically motivated.”
“It did not happen,” DiGiovanni said.
Manolo left the meeting early after her request to continue the agenda items was granted.
“I don’t think she’s in any condition to debate and discuss the items that are before the council, given what I have heard and what has happened,” Vice Mayor Raymond A. Buenaventura said.
Manolo said the assault occurred after she walked into the room and DiGiovanni told her she was in a meeting, NBC Bay Area reports.
“It was very painful, and I was in complete shock that she would do something like that to me in a physical manner,” Manalo told the television station.
DiGiovanni in her denial of the allegations said that she herself has been the victim of bullying.
“I would never do such a thing to anyone,” DiGiovanni said.
“As much as I’ve been bullied, over these past few months, have had public comments made about me.”
