Leeds United have signed Wilfried Gnonto from Zurich on a five-year deal.
The Elland Road side pushed for a forward on transfer deadline day.
They tried to bring in PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo, with director of football Victor Orta travelling to the Netherlands to try and secure his signature. But he travelled home on Thursday morning without his man.
Leeds then turned to Bamba Dieng and agreed a deal with Marseille. However, Nice moved for Dieng when he was set to fly to the United Kingdom and he chose to join the Ligue 1 side instead. That deal is now up in the air, according to reports in France.
Jesse Marsch’s side turned to Gnonto, the 18-year-old Zurich forward. Gnonto has four senior caps for Italy and has scored a goal for Roberto Mancini’s side.
Despite his young age, he has played 61 times for Zurich in the Swiss Super League, scoring nine goals.
