PRINCETON, N.J. - The Drexel women's team completed the opening day at the ITA Regionals in Princeton. Drexel had one individual and two doubles team advance to Saturday. Lorie Lemongo will play in the third round of singles competition tomorrow. The doubles teams of Lemongo and Mya Fuentes as well as Cristina Corte Gonzalez and Renata Lombera advanced to the second round.
In singles play, Lemongo earned a bye before playing in the second round. She cruised to a straight-set victory against Avery Hopkey of Lehigh, losing just one game in the opening set. Lemongo is looking to duplicate her success at last year's event, where she advanced to the Super Regional.
On the doubles side, Lemongo and Fuentes advanced with an 8-4 victory over their opponents, Jimena Garbino and Deniz Soyer from Hofstra. They will play tomorrow against an opponent to be announced. Corte Gonzalez and Lombera didn't get a chance to play, but they did advance by default.
Winners on Saturday will advance to the final day of the tournament on Sunday. The ITA Super Regionals will begin on Friday in New Haven, Conn.
