SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's basketball squad finalized its roster for the 2022-23 season Monday afternoon with the announcement that point guard Nick Fleming has joined the program as a graduate transfer from Southern Utah.

An Atlanta native, Fleming – who intends to pursue a master's degree in packaging value chain – will have one year of eligibility remaining for the upcoming season.

"We're excited to add a veteran point guard who can help us solidify consistency in the back court," fourth-year Cal Poly head coach John Smith said. "Nick comes to us from a winning program at the Division I level, so his leadership and mentorship of our younger players will be huge as we continue to build this program. He's an elusive scorer with an uncanny ability to make the easy play every time. His understanding of how to play with pace is something that we desperately need and look forward to infusing with our new core group."

As a senior last spring at Southern Utah, Fleming appeared in 32 of 35 games, helping the Thunderbirds to a 23-12 overall mark, a runner-up finish in the Big Sky Conference standings at 14-6 and a semifinal appearance in the inaugural The Basketball Classic postseason tournament. He scored a career best 18 points in Southern Utah's Basketball Classic opening-round victory against UTEP.

Transferring to Southern Utah from Highland Community College (Freeport, Ill.) ahead of the 2020-21 season, Fleming made 17 appearances during his first Division I year while recording three double-digit scoring games and a 3.6-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Finishing 20-4 overall two seasons ago, Southern Utah captured the Big Sky regular season title with a 12-2 mark before falling in the conference tournament semifinals.

Starting all 34 games for Highland CC during the 2019-20 season, Fleming averaged 11.4 points and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 40.6 percent from the three-point line. Named Most Valuable Player of the Region IV Tournament, Fleming finished with 23 double-digit scoring games.

Fleming spent his initial collegiate season at Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College, averaging 10.6 points per night as a freshman during the 2018-19 season.
