In a viral post published on social media, the internet has defended a woman who gave ginger candy—typically sold to people who experience pregnancy—to a male co-worker.
A woman under the anonymous username u/lucyfer-91 shared her story on Reddit's infamous forum r/AmITheA**hole in hopes of getting the opinion of many to determine if she was in the wrong. The viral post has over 9,000 upvotes and 1,000 comments.
The original poster (OP) briefly explained how she experiences car sickness. Whenever she gets headaches, she starts to feel nauseous. To stop the side effects of motion sickness, she takes ginger candies. Typically, they are sold in the parenting and pregnancy aisles in stores. She prefers taking the candies instead of medication as the ginger doesn't make her drowsy.
One day at work, she noticed that her male co-worker—who she refers to as "A"—wasn't feeling well and was nauseous. She gave him one of the candies, which appeared to really help him since he came back to her and asked if she had any more. She told him they were ginger candy and it's supposed to help with upset stomachs.
The next day, A was upset with the OP because of the candies that she gave him because one of the supervisors, "M," explained to A that his wife used those candies for her pregnancy.
"Now the guys at work are talking about how it was an [a**hole] move to give him pregnancy treatment (the were all natural and had nothing other than natural ingredients) to him. And now he is ignoring me," she concluded.
Newsweek reached out to u/lucyfer-91 for comment.
Do you suffer from motion sickness? According to the CDC, motion sickness occurs when the movement one sees is different from what the inner ear senses. People get motion sickness in a car, train, a boat, a plane or even on rides at a fair or amusement park. Symptoms of motion sickness include cold sweats, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and fatigue.
To help with the effects of motion sickness, the CDC recommends sitting in the front of a car or bus, sitting by a window on a train or plane, drinking plenty of water, eating small portions of food, distracting yourself with music, shutting your eyes and if possible, lying down. Other things that help with motion sickness include sucking on ginger candies, fresh air and acupressure wristbands.
Followers of the "AITA" forum shared their thoughts and opinions in the comment section, defending the OP.
"[Not the a**hole]. These guys have fragile egos if they're thinking ginger candy is only for pregnant women," u/darkstarr82 wrote, receiving the top comment with over 11,000 upvotes.
"[Not the a**hole] lmao it's literally candy. Sounds like a toxic workplace. They give out ginger candies on fishing boats and cruises," u/BakeCakeandDecorate said.
"Toxic masculinity at it's stupidest... [Not the a**hole]," u/-Pippi exclaimed.
U/BitiumRibbon commented, "Oh for Pete's sake. I say this as a dude myself, if men were any more fragile, they'd be made of stained glass. [Not the a**hole]. If they can't get over themselves, that's their loss."
