Hall Takes Eighth to Complete 2022 All-America Campaign - West Virginia University Athletics - WVU Athletics

DETROIT, Mich. Sophomore Peyton Hall of the West Virginia University wrestling team closed out his second appearance on NCAA Wrestling's grandest stage with an eighth-place showing in the 165-pound field, among 18,000 fans packed inside the Little Caesars Arena, on Saturday afternoon.

No. 9-seed Hall squared off against No. 7-seed Carson Kharchla of Ohio State in the seventh-place match after dropping a 10-6 decision to No. 4-seed Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin last night.

After a scoreless first period, the Chester, West Virginia, native escaped to take a 1-0 lead into the third period. Kharchla responded with a reversal in the opening seconds of the third and prevented the Mountaineer from escaping for over a minute, as the Buckeye escaped with a 3-2 decision off the point for riding time. Hall concluded his sophomore season as the team leader in wins with 28, including six in the postseason (Big 12s and NCAAs).

In addition, the sophomore's finish marked the fifth time a WVU grappler placed eighth in program history and first since 125-pounder Zeke Moisey did it in 2018.

Of note, West Virginia has qualified 13 wrestlers for the NCAA Championships since the Flynn era began in 2019.

*Team scores and brackets will be finalized later on tonight*
