ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos completed another successful day at their home track in the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. After running their preliminaries in their respective events, 10 Lobos qualified to compete in the finals for that event on Saturday’s schedule of events.
The Lobos women’s team sits at second on the team leaderboard with 39 points. The men’s team is fifth with 15 points.
Running a time of 53.86s in the 400m dash, Tianna Holmes qualified for the final round which takes place tomorrow at 11:50 a.m. In the 5000m run, Amelia Mazza-Downie ran a time of 16:07.14, the fastest time in the event in MW Indoor Championships history. The Lobos took the first three places in the 5000m run, as well, as Gracelyn Larkin came in second at a time of 16:08.23 and Ali Upshaw came in third with a time of 16:21.73.
In the men’s 60m dash, two Lobos qualified for the finals which are scheduled for 12:20 p.m. tomorrow. Victor Akhalu came in first in the event, running a time of 6.74s and Luke Wysong finished eighth with a time of 6.96 to qualify.
Jevon O’Bryant and Rivaldo Leacock both qualified for the finals in both the 200m dash and 400m dash. Tomorrow, the 200m dash finals are set for 1 p.m. and the 400m dash finals are set for 12 p.m. O’Bryant ran a time of 21.61s in the 200m dash for eighth place, while Leacock ran a time of 21.45s for fourth place. In the 400m dash, O’Bryant took first place with a time of 46.97s and Leacock placed third with a time of 47.98s.
In the men’s 800m run, Matthew Larkin qualified for the finals as he took first place in the preliminaries with a time of 1:51.70. Iolo Hughes also qualified for the finals in the event with a time of 1:53.15. The 800m run finals are scheduled for 12:40 p.m. tomorrow. Abdirizak Ibrahim qualified for the men’s mile finals as he took first place and ran a time of 4:02.12 in the preliminaries. Men’s mile final is set for 11:20 a.m. on Saturday.
Aidan Quinn hit a personal best in long jump at 7.05m. His main event of triple jump is set for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The Lobos are set to begin the final day of the Mountain West Indoor Championships on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
