Antonio Brown’s NFL career may have ended in January 2022.
After Brown unceremoniously exited MetLife Stadium in a shirtless blaze, Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians declared that the receiver is “no longer a Buc” following the incident.

April 2010: Draft day
Brown is drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round out of Central Michigan.
September 19, 2010: NFL debut
Brown records a kick return touchdown in his first career NFL game, becoming the first player since 2001 to do so.
February 6, 2011: First shot at a championship
The Steelers face the Packers in Super Bowl 45, with Brown returning kicks and punts, as well as recording one catch. Green Bay defeats Pittsburgh, 31-25.
July 28, 2012: “The franchise”
Following a 1,000-yard receiving season in 2011, the Steelers sign Brown to a five-year, $42.5 million extension. Safety Ryan Clark later said that during a 2012 practice, Brown shouted at defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau, “Don’t touch me. I’m the franchise.”
2014: First All-Pro selection
Brown leads the NFL in receptions and receiving yards with 129 and 1,698, respectively. He was selected for his first-ever All-Pro team and, at the time, was widely considered the best wide receiver in the league.
January 2017: Cracks in the foundation
Brown broadcasts the Steelers’ locker room celebration on Facebook Live following a Divisional Round win over the Chiefs, despite QB Ben Roethlisberger and Ramon Foster asking otherwise. Head coach Mike Tomlin calls the broadcast “selfish” and “foolish.”
February 27, 2017: Another extension
The Steelers sign Brown to a five-year contract making him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL. The deal was worth up to $68 million, with $19 million guaranteed.
December 2018: Pittsburgh loses patience
Steelers deactivate Brown for Week 17 game after he reportedly threw a ball at a teammate in practice. Reports indicate his relationship with Roethlisberger is poor.
February 2019: The end in Pittsburgh
Brown meets with Steelers owner Art Rooney II, both agree he should move on from the team.
March 2019: Buffalo trade axed
Brown protested a potential trade to the Bills on social media, resulting in the deal falling apart.
March 13, 2019: A fresh start
Steelers trade Brown to Raiders for third and fifth-round picks.
July 2019: Frostbite
Brown is placed on the non-football injury list due to frostbite from cryotherapy.
August 3, 2019: Feet pictures
Brown posts a picture of his blistered feet due to frostbite on Instagram.
August 9, 2019: The helmet issue
Brown files a grievance asking to continue wearing his own helmet, which had been banned, and threatens to retire if not allowed. He loses the grievance and doesn’t practice with the Raiders.
September 4, 2019: Mayock fines Brown
Raiders GM Mike Mayock fines Brown $54,000 for missing practice. Brown posts the letter of his fines on social media and has a verbal altercation with Mayock the following day.
September 7, 2019: Fallout in Oakland
Brown demands, and receives, his release from the Raiders after the team voids guaranteed money in his contract.
September 7, 2019: Brady to the rescue
Brown agrees to a one-year deal with the Patriots worth up to $15 million.
September 10-16, 2019: Allegations surface
Brown is accused of sexual assault by former trainer Britney Taylor. Simultaneously, a Sports Illustrated article details a second incident of alleged sexual misconduct by Brown.
September 20, 2019: Patriots tenure ends
New England releases Brown after just one game with the team.
January 13, 2020: Police distance themselves
Hollywood, Florida’s police department says they no longer want Brown associated with their youth league following a number of domestic incidents in which they were called to his home. The Hollywood PD returns a check from Brown and issues a trespass order against him.
January 22, 2020: More legal trouble
An arrest warrant is issued for Brown in relation to an alleged battery and burglary. The receiver was involved in an apparent altercation with a delivery truck driver. He pleaded no contest later that year and received two years probation.
July 31, 2020: League suspends Brown
Brown is suspended for eight games by the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy.
October 27, 2020: Brady to the rescue… again
Brown signs a one-year deal with the Buccaneers despite coach Bruce Arians having previously said he wasn’t a fit with the organization.
February 7, 2021: Super Bowl champs
Brown catches a touchdown and five passes to help the Bucs win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.
May 25, 2021: Bucs bring back Brown
Brown signs another one-year deal with Tampa Bay for $3.1 million guaranteed and up to $6.25 million total.
December 2, 2021: The COVID issue
Brown is suspended for three games by the league for misrepresenting his COVID vaccination status.
January 2, 2022: Meltdown
Brown strips off his pads and shirt during Tampa’s game at the Jets, leaving the stadium after refusing to go into the game. Arians tells reporters afterward that Brown has been cut from the team.
