You’ll soon be able to travel 65 miles an hour on Highway 23 between Plymouth and the Fond du Lac County line as the project to expand to a 4-lane highway is nearly complete here.
Many had campaigned to expand the highway for more than 40 years before challenges and delays were overcome and contracts were signed in 2019. And although it will take until next year for the Fond du Lac County work to be completed all the way to Highway 151, the Sheboygan County portion will be essentially complete later this week.
The Wisconsin DOT says that the westbound lanes are now open to 2-lanes of traffic up to the county line, and once crews complete a few so-called “punch list” items, the two eastbound lanes will be open, and the speed limit will increase to 65 miles per hour.
