Trumbull defeated Kelso (WA) 12-2 to complete pool play with a 4-0 record and advance to the 15-year-old Babe Ruth World Series semifinals in Eagle Pass, Texas on Sunday night.
The No. 1 seed in the National Division, New England champion Trumbull will meet today’s winner of the quarterfinal game between Midwest Plains champion Bismarck (ND) and Middle Athlantic champ Mifflin County (PA) in the semis on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Pacific Southwest champ Tri-Valley (CA) is No. 1 in the American Division. It’s semifinal is Tuesday at 5:30.
“Jake Hull pitched the first three innings to earn the victory,” Trumbull manager Mike Buswell said after the win over the Pacific Northwest champions. “Brandon Fowler pitched the fourth. Scott Harvey pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth. Dylan Lamy closed the game out in the seventh.”
The quartet allowed 10 hits, two earned runs, walked two, and struck out three.
Sean Francoeur (three hits), Jack Durland (two hits) and Jeffrey Kraus (two triples) paced a 12-hit attack.
“Jack made three diving plays, including the final out of the game when he robbed Kelso of a sure-fire single,” Buswell said of his shortstop. “Officials chose Jack as the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game.”
D.J. Amaral (double), Matt Wood, Kraus and Francoeur each drove in two runs.
Jackson DePino, Harvey (double), Fowler and Durland had RBIs.
Nick Lobuono (two), Durland (two), Kraus (two), Fowler, DePino and Francoeur scored runs.
