Ten students completed the manicuring/nail technology program at Beaufort County Community College. The college recently started offering the single-semester program to both students in the cosmetology program looking to add a credential or as a two-class, standalone certificate through the Division of Continuing Education.
Brittany Cahoon, Chastidy Dudley, Jamika Fisher, Keyona Jacques, Olivia Lopez-Sanchez, Angel Midgette, Shanika Midgette, Anagabi Romero-Lopez, Nena Speaks and Shaquita Sutton all completed the program.
This program covers techniques of nail technology, hand and arm surface manipulation, and recognition of nail diseases and disorders. Topics include OSHA/safety, sanitation, bacteriology, product knowledge, salesmanship, manicures, artificial applications, pedicures, surface manipulation, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to safely and competently perform nail care, including manicures, pedicures, surface manipulations, decorating and artificial applications in a salon setting.
Graduates can take the North Carolina Cosmetology State Board Licensing Exam to be licensed and qualify for employment in beauty and nail salons, as a platform artist, and in related businesses.
The next program starts on August 16, and it is free to qualifying students. Students can email continuingeducation@beaufortccc.edu or call 252-940-6375 to get signed up.
