Former GAM fund manager Tomasso Bonanata has reunited with former colleague Evelynne Pflugi at research venture The Singularity Group (TSG).
Bonanata left the Swiss asset manager in 2016, having overseen African equity funds. Sine his departure from the firm, he has been focusing on bitcoin advocacy and is currently head of investments at Base58, which specialises in crypto assets.
In his new capacity, Bonanata assumes an advisory role within its blockchain operations, which TSG said would build on his belief that decentralised systems will become increasingly important in global finance.
The addition of Bonanata coincides with blockchain expert John Orthwein also coming on board in an advisory capacity. Orthwein is head of blockchain and decentralised finance at i.AM Innovation Lab, as well as holding several representative roles on innovation and asset management.
Aleksandra W. Gadzala Tirziu, head of research at TSG, said: ‘The hype about cryptocurrencies and blockchain is an expression of the growing interest of investors in these technologies.
‘However, in order to be able to benefit sustainably from blockchain-based business models, well-founded analyzes and proven expertise - especially in times of uncertainty - are necessary, which we at John Orthwein and Tommaso Bonanata appreciate very much.’
Bonanata and Orthwein will sit on the advisory board along with Laurenz Apiarius, managing partner at Blockwall. GAM’s head of alternative risk premia, Lars Jaeger, was assigned an advisory role for Pflugi’s company in January 2020 and is still listed on the company’s website.
