Gilpin supervisors seek volunteer to replace colleague who died last month - Tribune-Review

Gilpin officials are looking for a township supervisor following the unexpected death last month of Susan Brown.

Brown died March 17 at age 61. She had been appointed to fill a vacancy in 2016 and served as the board’s vice chairwoman from 2018 until her death.

Her term was set to expire in December.

Brown intended to run for reelection to her two-year seat, and also was seeking a four-year seat that will be vacated in January. Her name will remain on the ballot for the May 18 primary, according to Armstrong County elections officials.

In the meantime, the board needs someone to fill Brown’s seat for the remainder of this year. Candidates must be registered voters in Gilpin to serve on the board.

People may submit a letter of interest that includes their name, address, how long they’ve been a resident and a brief overview of their qualifications. The letters are due to the board no later than May 3. That’s when the supervisors will schedule interviews.

Those interested may submit their letters via email to secretary@gilpintwp.com, hand delivery or mail to 589 State Route 66, Leechburg, Pennsylvania 15656.

Supervisors plan to vote to select Brown’s replacement on May 10.

At the supervisors’ meeting on Monday, the board elected Supervisor Jeremy Smail as the new vice chair. Smail also volunteered to fill Brown’s role as co-chair of the contract negotiations committee.
