NEW ORLEANS – Chris Turpin dealt a complete game shutout and the New Orleans Privateers (6-7, 1-0) got some early offense going in a 3-0 win over the HBU Huskies (2-10, 0-1) on Friday evening at Maestri Field.
 
DAT RIGHT
Turpin backed up his fantastic start against Bradley with another gem to open the weekend. The senior struck out the first two batters he faced and needed just 87 pitches to get finish what he started for the first complete game by a Privateer since Kyle Arjona in May 2018.
 
It was also the first shutout thrown by a Privateer since Bryan Warzek did it against Lamar in Apr. 2017.
 
EARLY OFFENSE
The Privateers put up three runs on the board, all in the first two innings. Kasten Furr singled to center and was quickly driven home on a double to left by Gaige Howard. The Privateers collected five hits in the first two frames and scored three runs.
 
Salo Iza had a sac fly RBI in the opening frame and Darren Willis drove in a run with an RBI single to right in the second.
 
Furr and Howard each had two-hit nights to help lead the offense.
 
TEJEDA SHINES
Jorge Tejeda flashed his arm behind the plate as he threw out two runners trying to steal. Tejeda threw out Lane Botkin to end the fifth inning and repeated the feat a frame later against Chase Talbot. Tejeda has caught four of ten runners trying to steal against him this season.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Tejeda, Willis, Luther Woullard and Issac Williams each had a hit for the Privateers. Gaige and Pearce Howard were both hit by a pitch.
 
Tyler Zarella threw seven innings and allowed three runs, all earned. He had three strikeouts and two walks. Morris Austin threw a scoreless inning and struck out the side in the eighth for HBU. The Huskies didn't get their first hit until Botkin singled with two outs in the fifth.

The series continues with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
