In Covid times even the thought of a warm-plonk office party makes the eyes mist with nostalgic yearning. But in any other year a certain levity might meet the news that an employment tribunal recommended damages because a firm didn’t invite an employee to its Christmas do. She was on maternity leave, and it forgot.
To be fair, the case of Catriona Howie was partly concerned with the firm’s failure in 2019 to keep her informed about economic problems leading to redundancy. But the judge also solemnly took into account her “injury to feelings” over the party.
At this point those of us who remember the fuzzy limbo of early motherhood will nod in total understanding. If you’ve built a career and an office fellowship,
