NUTLEY, NJ — Displaying their care for one another, Nutley employees have pulled together to ensure one of their colleagues has enough sick days to cover his recovery from recent surgery.
On Nov. 5, the Nutley Board of Commissioners voted 4-0 to allow various Nutley employees to transfer their unused sick days to Parks and Recreation Department employee Thomas Buel. The resolution, which grants permission for 14 employees to transfer a total of 45 sick days to Buel, was introduced by Mayor Mauro Tucci and seconded by Commissioner John Kelly III.
“This is not the first time something like this has been done,” Tucci told the Nutley Journal on Nov. 13. “It’s not an everyday occurrence, but when a colleague has exhausted all of their sick time due to some type of medical emergency or recovery period, Nutley employees step up to assure a steady paycheck to the affected individual. It’s a longstanding tradition in town and indicative of the type of caring, concerned people we have working here. I’m proud of each and every one of them!”
The following employees volunteered to donate their unused sick time to Buel: Anthony Bisignano, Christopher Bucci, Ronald Cundiff, Frank Demaio, Michael Donadio, Mary Fenui, Anthony Gagliardo, Nicholas Gould, Michael Kirk, Angelo Jones, Ronald LaRosa, Cory Pilsbury, Lois Plinio and Theresa Vinci.
“The reason I volunteered to donate days is because a fellow Nutley guy was in need of some help due to a surgery he had to have, a new employee who just didn’t have enough sick time to cover this recovery,” Demaio told the Nutley Journal. “We had a lot of guys donate time and I’m proud of all the men and women who looked to help out another member of our work family!”
