BATHINDA: Following an argument, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Moga Police allegedly opened fire at his colleague with his service weapon on late Thursday night. When the altercation taken place, both the cops were deployed on security duty outside district treasury in the Moga SSP office premises.
ASI Sukhraj Singh, 52, allegedly shot at his colleague ASI Kirpal Singh after an argumen. Kirpal, however, ducked and escaped unhurt, said the police.
Moga DSP city Barjinder Singh Bhullar said, “Both had an argument over some minor issue. Sukhraj was infuriated and in a fit of rage he opened fire at his colleague from his carbine. However, Kirpal was quick to respond and ducked the bullets by laying down. Sukhraj fled from the spot. leaving the weapon there. He was arrested later.”
A case has been registered against ASI Sukhraj for attempt to murder and under the Arms Act at Moga city-1 police station.
DSP said the arrested cop had been placed under suspension and a departmental inquiry had been initiated against him. He, however, had no history of any such incident in the past and prima facie neither he was suffering from depression or any other health issues, he said.
