Hospital bosses and colleagues have paid tribute to an NHS worker who was allegedly murdered in her own home.
Staff at the Royal Stoke University Hospital have been left 'deeply saddened' by the shock death of long-serving Tina Cartlidge.
It comes as Staffordshire Police have launched a murder investigation after the 59-year-old was found with a 'significant head injury' at her home on Friar Street, Longton.
The grandmother-of-six and mother-of-three had been a support worker within the Royal Stoke's maternity centre for more than 20 years before tragedy struck.
Royal Stoke chief executive Tracy Bullock said: “She had worked here for a very long time and her colleagues are deeply affected and saddened.
“It’s incredibly sad. It’s heart-breaking when you lose someone. It’s like losing a member of your own family because people end up spending more time in work than they do at home and you become very close.
“My heart goes out to the family.
“But the staff are very professional. They have got a job to do, and they continue to put patients first.”
Union leaders have also paid tribute to Tina.
Rob Irving, from the Royal College of Nursing, said: “It is very sad news to lose a member of staff.
“My deepest condolences to the family.”
Police and paramedics were called to Tina's home just after 12.30pm on Tuesday, April 7.
A man in his 60s - who has not been named - has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been released on police bail. An inquest has already been opened and adjourned into Tina's death.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the tragedy.
Anyone with any information about Tina's death should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 283 of April 7, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
