Bulldogs Outrun Great Danes to Complete Sweep - University of Georgia Athletics - Georgia Bulldogs

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com

ATHENS, Ga. – The 14th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Albany Great Danes 9-1 to complete the series sweep on Sunday in front of 1,821 spectators at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs' nine runs came on seven hits, led by a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance from redshirt-senior Josh McAllister. Senior Cory Acton picked up two hits and two RBI at the top of Georgia's (3-0) lineup, while Sophomore Fernando Gonzalez and freshman Cole Wagner also drove in two runs.

"I told the guys, good teams win series, great teams sweep," said Georgia's Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. "That was the challenge going in today. Dylan (Ross) only gave up one run and was up to 95 MPH. I'm really excited about the talent we have on this pitching staff and the overall depth we have on this team."

On the mound, junior right-handed pitcher Dylan Ross picked up his first win. The Statesboro, Ga., native went five innings giving up only one run on four hits – striking out six Great Danes. Albany (0-3) left-handed pitcher, Cregg Scherrer was tabbed with the loss.

The Bulldogs struck early in game three. In the first inning, graduate Cole Tate ripped a single to right-centerfield and sophomore Parks Harber reached bases on balls. The pair of Georgia runners quickly advance to second and third after a wild pitch and two batters later a passed ball scored Cole Tate from third to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second Albany grabbed a couple of base runners thanks to a lead-off double by Jason Bottari and a hit by pitch. With two runners in scoring position, Ross caught Carson Dunkel swinging and got Will Binder to ground out to second, successfully working out of the jam – leaving Great Danes on base.

After walking the first Albany batter in the third, Ross retired the next three batters he faced. In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs extended their lead to three thanks to a double down the right-field line by Gonzalez that cleared the bases, scoring Cole Wagner from first and McAllister from second.

The Great Danes cut into the Bulldog lead, plating one run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center – which saw a spectacular diving catch by redshirt-freshman Dwight Allen II. But, the Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo blast to left-centerfield from Cole Wagner and a two-RBI double by Acton to give Georgia a 6-1 edge.

In the bottom of the eighth, Georgia added three more runs on a three-RBI double down the left-field line by McAllister to extend the margin to eight. The Bulldogs would go on to win 9-1.

Georgia will be back in action for a mid-week matchup with the Wofford Terriers on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Foley Field. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

10 Things You Must Do When You First Meet A New Colleague Online - Forbes

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com

Meeting new coworkers and clients online can feel awkward and much less human than the analog version that we were all used to before March 2020. But e-meeting is the biggest kind of meeting (for some of us, it’s the only kind of meeting) these days, so making a powerful digital first impression is critical. There are things you should do before meeting them to help you deliver a powerful first impression when they perform preliminary research (a.k.a. Google and LinkedIn) on you. Then, there are things you need to do during that first screen-to-screen meeting to create a solid foundation for a good relationship. When those two interactions deliver a positive impression, you’ll be on a pedestal thanks to confirmation bias. Confirmation bias in this sense means that a couple of consistent positive experiences with you will set the trajectory in a positive upward direction.

Here are my top tips for maximizing the power of video (which is the richest form of communication, next to being there in person), which you can use to keep that trajectory moving higher. If they offer to do a phoner, ask for video instead. It’s the closest thing to those real-world interactions we used to have, and video allows you to deliver a complete communication. You should be comfortable using video now, so make sure the first interaction is as engaging as possible.

1. Show up on time. Be ready to go as soon as your online meeting starts. Nothing says “this isn’t important to me” like showing up late or frazzled.

2. Say their name (multiple times if you can). If you’re meeting them on Zoom, their name will likely be right there on the screen. It’s the digital equivalent of the Hello My Name Is sticker that’s common at many networking events. Make a mental note of the name. If there are multiple people you’re meeting at once, take a screenshot, and you’ll have the pics and names of the folks from the meeting.

3. Look them in the eye. That means looking at the camera, not where they appear on your screen. This is the biggest mistake I see people make over and over. Although it may feel weird, when you get used to it, it will have a big impact on how you connect with others, while showing them you have mastered online interactions. If it feels weird talking to a green light on your laptop, tape a picture of a person right where the camera is (making sure not to obscure the lens!).

4. Ask questions and listen. Have some questions prepared that will show that you’re interested and original. Go for questions like “What are you excited about right now?” over “What’s the weather like today in Chicago?” Ask them about something you learned from the prep you did for your online research on them. “So, I see you worked for American Express early in your career. How did you like that?” It shows that you are interested and have done your homework.

It’s more important to be interested than interesting. And don’t forget to ask the most important question: “How can I help you?”

5. Use tech to enhance the experience. Use the QR code of your LinkedIn profile so they can easily connect with you by just holding their phone up to the screen. Warmly.ai for Zoom lets you create a background signature with information you want to share about yourself.

6. Acknowledge them. There is likely something impressive, something you respect, something you admire about every person you meet. From your research, identify the thing you want to call out.

7. Take notes. While you likely won’t remember everything you learn about someone, do jot down the important bits. Just don’t take too many notes, though, because you’ll seem disinterested if it’s clear you’re typing instead of paying attention. I keep an Evernote note called People and jot down a few keywords related to each new person I meet.

8. Create a connection. Identify someone in your network you could introduce this new colleague to. Think about who in your network would be great for them to meet. One of the most valuable networking activities you can do is to create connections among network members.

9. Identify when you will next connect. Don’t end the meeting without a plan for the next meeting or activity. Identify when/how you will connect again. Relationships are built over many interactions.

10. Don’t rush out of the Zoom room. Don’t be the first person to click “leave meeting.” You don’t want to look like you were desperate to move on to something else.

With a little effort, you can make e-meetings positive, powerful and productive.

Georgia's On-Field Staff Complete, Monken Appears Set For a Third Season in Athens - CalBearsMaven

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com

With the latest hiring of Fran Brown as Georgia's newest cornerbacks coach, the former Rutgers defensive back coach has filled the final on-field coaching vacancy on Georgia's staff for this offseason.

After seeing the Georgia Bulldogs deliver the program's first national championship in 41-years, the departure of one coordinator and two other position coaches is not a huge reset for a coaching staff that many expected to be raided after an impressive 2021 campaign.

When compared to Alabama's staff turnover a year ago after the Crimson Tide accomplished a similar feat of winning the national championship in the 2020 season, legendary head coach Nick Saban saw eleven coaches (off-field staff members included) leave Tuscaloosa following the championship win.

Georgia's Outgoing Coaches Following the 2021 Season

  • WR coach Cortez Hankton left for the same position at LSU
  • DC and OLB coach Dan Lanning left for the head coaching job at Oregon
  • DB coach Jahmile Addae left for the same position at Miami

Georgia's Incoming Coaches

  • WR coach Bryan McClendon
  • OLB coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe
  • DB coach Fran Brown

After two seasons in the same post at Rutgers, Brown comes to Athens coaching the secondary. Brown led a Scarlett Knight's secondary that gave up around 235 passing yards in the 2021 season, which saw Rutgers finish with a 5-8 record.

Brown is filling the vacancy left by Jahmile Addae, who went to coach the defensive backs at Miami after just one season in Athens. Georgia's defense ranked first in scoring defense, redzone defense, and second in total defense. In addition, the Bulldogs passing defense was the 13th best in the country in 2021.

Addae did wonders on the field for the Bulldogs in his short stint, but he also made an impact off the field. Addae helped Georgia land one of the most star-studded defensive back classes in the country, which saw him rank as the second-best recruiter during the 2022 cycle according to the 247Sports Football Recruiter Rankings. Addae's replacement, Brown, ranked 43rd in the country for the 2022 cycle, not only making him the eighth-best recruiter in the Big Ten but the Scarlet Knights' best recruiter on staff, by a rather large margin as well.

Brown inherits a cornerbacks room that lost former Clemson transfer Derion Kendrick, to the NFL Draft. At the same time, Ameer Speed, Jalen Kimber, and Latavious Brini all opted to enter the NCAA's Transfer Portal shortly after the national championship-winning season. Meanwhile, Georgia returns Kelee Ringo, who clinched the program's national championship win with the interception, returned for a touchdown in the game's late stages versus Alabama.

Brown will take the cornerbacks while co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will coach the safeties in 2022 after being promoted to the role of sharing the defensive coordinating duties with inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann following the departure of Dan Lanning.

Luckily for Georgia, Lanning looks to be the only coordinator to depart Athens after the 2021 season. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken looked destined for another shot at coordinating in the National Football League. However, as the coaching carousel continues to wind down at both the college and professional level, it looks more and more likely that Monken will return to Athens for the third season in his current three deal he signed with Georgia back following the conclusion of the 2019 season.

Monken's offense saw Georgia average 38.6 points per game, a new high for the program under Kirby Smart, not to mention Monken coordinated through the numerous injuries suffered at key positions like quarterback and wide receiver throughout the season.

Monken's future beyond the 2022 season is unclear; with his contract coming to an end in the near future, it may allow for him to pursue his dreams of returning to the NFL or renew his contract with Georgia.

Jermaine Johnson II has tools to be complete edge rusher, potentially for Cowboys - Yahoo Sports

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com

The 2022 draft is full of top shelf edge rush talent. Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux are fighting to be the top pick of the draft. There are other talents such as George Karlaftis, Travon Walker, David Ojabo, Logan Hall, and Cameron Thomas who could all go in the first round as well.

A position this loaded could allow a very talented player to fall further then they should. Jermaine Johnson II could be that player this time. He showed his talent at Florida State as a redshirt senior. Getting his college start in the junior college (JUCO) ranks, before transferring to Georgia as a rotational player is one reason he could fall below other prospects in the edge rush class, also his Senior Bowl week may have dampened the chances he slides to the Dallas Cowboys at pick No. 24.

The Cowboys definitely have a need at the edge spot. Randy Gregory and Dorance Armstrong are free agents. Even if one or both are re-signed, Demarcus Lawrence is on a big contract that could make him a cap casualty sooner rather than later. Dallas could look to save money one way or another by adding an early edge prospect to be a future starter on the team. Hutchinson and Thibodeaux might be gone too early, but Johnson could be the answer.

Measurables and Stats

Listed Height: 6-foot-5

Listed Weight: 265 pounds

Games Played in 2021: 12

Jersey Number: 11

Film Study Information

Games Watched: Alabama (2020), Notre Dame (2021), Clemson (2021), Miami(FL) (2021)

Best Game: Notre Dame (2021)

Worst Game: Miami(FL) (2021)

Strengths

Johnson plays the run game with a high level of intelligence, picking up what the offense is trying to do and attacking it. His length allows him to hold off blockers, shed the block, and bring down the ball carrier. This was evident by his 70 overall tackles and 17.5 tackles for a loss his last season at Florida State. That’s 25 percent of his total tackles going for a loss.

Edge rushers don’t get drafted in the first round because of their run stopping ability, though.

Johnson added 11.5 sacks his final season, and he has many tools to succeed when rushing the quarterback. He can win with his get off. The first step is not a false step often, and that get off allows him to win the corner and flatten well enough for it to be a weapon offensive tackles must honor at the NFL level.

He isn’t a burner around the outside, so he needs other ways to win in order to be a double-digit sack guy regularly. This is where his length, hands, and pass rush moves come in to play. His length gets him into the offensive lineman quickly, he has hands that are hard to move off of the player he’s engaging with, and even when he is stopped early on, he plays through the whole snap making blockers engage for the entire play at top level effort.

Johnsons biggest strength is his versatility. Ideally, he’d play as a 4-3 defensive end. While at Georgia though he was a 3-4 edge rusher and played ok in coverage zones in his limited opportunities. He could set an edge or add pass rush at either spot, but also could move inside in a nascar-style package on third down pass-rush situations.

Weaknesses

Johnson has a few issues that could knock him down the board early in Round 1. A GPA of under 2.0 put him in the JUCO league to start his college career. He transferred to Georgia but was limited to a rotational player. Even though he gave possible No. 1 overall pick Evan Neal all he could handle in 2020, the fact remains he has only played one season as a college starting defensive end.

On the field he is a pretty complete prospect but limited in some ways. He has a good get off, but it’s inconsistent. He has only moderate flexibility, which limits his wins around the corner to when he hits on his first step on the snap of the ball. While plenty strong, he isn’t overpowering, relying some on his length to help mitigate issues with stronger offensive tackles.

Conclusion

Johnson II is a hard prospect to poke holes in. He has a complete game for a defensive end at the college level and projects well to the NFL game. He has the requisite size, length, ability, football instincts, and motor to be a plus starter in the league. His tools put him in the mold of Cowboys edge rusher Demarcus Lawrence. Excellent edge setter, with enough of a pass rush presence that he could be a top sack guy for a team. He had already won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, was named First-Team All-ACC, and after an excellent showing throughout Senior Bowl week, fans shouldn’t be surprised if he jumps up boards, and solidly into the first round of the draft.

Haendiges Deals Complete Game, Offense Explodes in Oregon State's Win Over DePaul - Oregon State University Athletics - OSU Beavers

nnnindonesia.blogspot.com
SAN DIEGO – It was a dominant effort for the Oregon State softball team, which earned a 10-0 victory in five innings behind a stellar outing for Sarah Haendiges and an explosion from the Beaver offense in the second day of the Torero Classic on Saturday.

Haendiges earned the win with 5.0 scoreless innings of two-hit ball, notching three strikeouts in the performance. She improved to 2-0 on the year with two complete games in her early Beaver career.

Oregon State (5-3) recorded 14 hits and did all the necessary damage in the first and third innings, putting up three and six runs in the frames, respectively. The Orange & Black added another insurance run in the fourth from Frankie Hammoude's sixth bomb of the season.

Freshman Kiki Escobar continued her stellar start to her career with three more hits including a double in the third. In total, five Beavers recorded multiple hits and five recorded at least an RBI.

The offense broke through in the top of the first, as Escobar got things started with a single to left. A DePaul error and a pair of singles from Kaylah Nelson and Lici Campbell made it 3-0.

Haendiges went to work in the bottom of the second, retiring the batters in order to hold the Blue Demons scoreless.

The Beaver offense broke the game open in the top of the third. After a Mariah Mazon single and a Frankie Hammoude double, Nelson grabbed her second RBI with an infield single.  Smart base running followed by hits from Campbell (solo), Madison Simon (solo), Xiao Gin (triple) and Escobar (double) made it 9-0.

In the bottom half of the fourth frame, Haendiges added one of her three strikeouts to once again retire the Blue Demons in order. Haendiges sealed the victory with back-to-back strikeouts.

Up Next:
OSU is set to finish the Torero Classic on Sunday, Feb. 20 with games against Iowa (9:00 a.m.) and San Diego (2:00 p.m.).
